At GoodFX, we believe businesses can - and should - be a force for good. This belief comes alive when we see brands and local charities working side by side to tackle urgent social challenges. A recent example of this is House of Hackney, who chose to donate the proceeds from their GoodFX partnership to Hackney Foodbank, an organisation they have proudly supported for several years.

About Hackney Foodbank

Hackney Foodbank was founded 13 years ago by a group of local women who saw families struggling to put food on the table. What they hoped would be a temporary lifeline has grown into a vital resource for the community. Today, the foodbank distributes around £50,000 worth of food every month, supporting up to 800 people a week through its six distribution centres and the Hackney Giving Van.

Hackney Foodbank is part of the national Trussell Trust network, with over 100 referral partners in the borough. Anyone facing crisis or trapped in poverty can be referred and will receive a three-day emergency food parcel, containing nutritious non-perishables, hygiene products and, thanks to partners like the Felix Project, fresh fruit and vegetables too.

But their mission goes far beyond food. The team offers wraparound support, from benefits advice to debt management, to help people address the root causes of poverty and achieve long-term stability.

House of Hackney’s Ongoing Support

House of Hackney, the B Corp interiors brand born in East London, has had a longstanding relationship with Hackney Foodbank. Through regular fundraising initiatives like their popular sample sales, volunteering days, and festive events such as the Supermarket Sweep, they have consistently found ways to give back to the community on their doorstep.

When House of Hackney partnered with GoodFX to manage their foreign exchange exposure, they nominated Hackney Foodbank as the beneficiary of any proceeds generated from the partnership. It was a natural extension of their commitment to supporting the foodbank’s vital work, enabling House of Hackney to make even more of a difference through a tool they were already using: currency exchange. Real Impact

Every £1,000 redirected to Hackney Foodbank translates to over 530 nutritious meals for local people. With rising living costs, this support is more important than ever.

Working with GoodFX to channel proceeds from foreign exchange activity into an existing charitable relationship is a testament to the power of aligning purpose with business operations, made possible by the flexibility of the GoodFX model.

GoodFX’s Role

GoodFX works with businesses to convert their foreign exchange activity into a source of social impact. In House of Hackney’s case, we helped the team identify a flexible and capital-light solution to mitigate their FX risk. The fees generated - rather than all being lost to a bank - were redirected to support a cause they care deeply about.

What’s Next

By choosing to use their FX strategy to deepen an existing relationship with Hackney Foodbank, House of Hackney and GoodFX are showing how small shifts in business thinking can create lasting community change. Together, we're showing how local businesses can help build a future where no one in Hackney goes hungry; not just by giving food, but by helping people move forward to more secure, independent lives.

If you’d like to explore how your business can support vital local causes through GoodFX, get in touch. Let’s unlock the good your business can do.
